Research collaboration to create a climate and ocean literacy education network between Ireland and Mauritius
A new research partnership between the School of STEM Education, Innovation and Global studies in DCU’s Institute of Education and the Mauritius Institute of Education aims to develop an education network for collaboration on climate and ocean literacy and to mobilise climate change education expertise and resources within the two island states, Republic of Ireland and Mauritius.
The project will create a network of educational researchers, teacher educators and teachers who are engaging with climate change education and STEM education in island contexts (Ireland and Mauritius), where the oceanic impacts of climate change are being, and will continue to be, experienced most directly.
The project 'Climate, Our Oceans and Primary STEM Education: Climate and Ocean Literacy Network Ireland and Mauritius (COLNIM)' is funded by the Irish Research Council under the New Foundations programme and is led by Dr Cliona Murphy and Dr Benjamin Mallon from Dublin City University.
Dr Ravhee Bholahand Dr Anwar Bhai Rumjaun from the Mauritius Institute of Education were welcomed to DCU earlier this week by Prof Anne Looney, Executive Dean of the Institute of Education.
This meeting marked the beginning of a new transnational network which supports a key strategic priority for Ireland’s Policy for International Development and strengthening support for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) especially those most vulnerable to climate impact.
