DCU students win Irish language moot court competition Bréagchúirt Uí Dhálaigh
Congratulations to DCU’s School of Law and Government students won the Irish language intervarsity moot court competition Bréagchúirt Uí Dhálaigh on Friday.
Organised by Gael Linn, the competition has been running for 22 years and is open to third-level law students who are fluent in Irish. Every year, the competition includes law students from universities and professional legal bodies across Ireland. It allows aspiring solicitors and barristers to practice their courtroom skills as they defend or prosecute in an appeal against a court judgment.
The winning DCU team, who beat a team of trainee barristers from the King’s Inns in the final, comprised second year BCL (Law and Society) students: Caoimhe Cummins and Róisín Madden (who acted as the team's speakers) and Cian Bolger Hayes and David Nesbitt (who acted as the team's solicitors).
Congratulating the winning team, Aisling de Paor from DCU’s School of Law and Government, said: “This is the first time DCU has won first prize in this prestigious competition and the team faced stiff competition in the final, so we are incredibly proud of our students. This success again highlights DCU as a leader in mooting and experiential learning. It also showcases the exceptional talent and practical legal skills of our law students.”
