Report launch by Minister Joe O’Brien TD, Minister for Community Development and Charities

A new report Environmental Justice in Ireland: Key dimensions of environmental and climate injustice experienced by vulnerable and marginalised communities by the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University in conjunction with Community Law and Mediation will be launched virtually on Thursday 24th March at 11am.

It sets out key recommendations to improve the monitoring of environmental pollution and its correlation with measures of deprivation and vulnerability, as well as to strengthen the pursuit of environmental justice in Ireland. In addition to the report, a new environmental justice resource for use by schools and community organisations will be launched.

The event will feature a keynote address by Minister Joe O’Brien; and a panel of speakers, including:

  • Sadhbh O’Neill, lead author and assistant professor in DCU’s School of Law and Government;
  • Dr Rosaleen McDonagh, Commissioner Irish Human Rights and Equality Authority, Traveller woman with a disability
  • Austin Campbell, Executive Director Robert Emmet CDP
  • Eimear Manning, Environmental Programme Coordinator National Youth Council of Ireland
  • Mark Murphy, Irish Heart Foundation and the Climate and Health Alliance

The research has been funded by the Irish Research Council under the New Foundations 2020 funding scheme.
