Freya Dasgupta Awarded ISASR Sídh Prize 2020
Freya Dasgupta, PhD student in the School of Theology, Philosophy, and Music won the 2020 Irish Society for the Academic Study of Religions [ISASR] Sídh prize for her essay, ‘Sholem Asch Amidst the Jewish Reclamation of Jesus’. The Sídh Prize is an annual postgraduate essay competition organised by ISASR. Freya’s submission explored the Jewish literary landscape from the Enlightenment onwards that witnessed an increasing interest in the figure of Jesus among Jewish writers and artists.
This analysis is a part of Freya’s PhD dissertation which seeks to understand twentieth century Yiddish author Sholem Asch’s attempts at Jewish-Christian reconciliation through fiction and its relevance to interfaith dialogue. Freya is supervised by Dr Peter Admirand and Dr Jonathan Kearney and is currently in her second year of her doctoral studies.
