An evening talk for students with Dr Liam Moggan
The Physical Education team hosted an evening talk on Monday 12th March inviting students to connect with eachother and with the key messages of the evening related to the impact of teachers on children in schools: ‘Good teachers make a difference’. While the evening was attended by PE Specialism students, students outside the PE specialism were also welcomed as well as Teacher Fellows from the IoE and international visitor Åge Vigane, from the University of Stavanger, Norway.
Known as the ‘godfather of coaching’, Dr Liam Moggan, the guest speaker, is a coach, teacher and master storyteller related to all things sport. Liam shared personal experiences of teachers who made an impact on his life, particularly experiences relating to physical education and highlighted where teachers influenced his career in physical education and sport.
It was particularly heartening to welcome students who were competing in sport at the highest levels taking time out to reflect on the difference that teachers can make. We hope that this experience has enriched our students on their BEd journey. The support of the Irish Primary PE Association (IPPEA) is gratefully acknowledged.
