Lucy is a visual artist and an academic. She joined DCU Institute of Education, School of Arts Education and Movement in January 2023. Prior to this, she lectured part-time at the National College of Art and Design School of Education, including co-design and delivery (with Dr. Andrew Wall) of the research methods module for Ph.D. students. Lucy’s Ph.D. in art education was awarded by the NCAD in 2021 for which she was awarded an Irish Research Council Postgraduate Scholarship, and a Thomas Dammann Memorial Award. Her supervisor was Professor Dervil Jordan, and her thesis proposed a posthuman ‘Ethico-Aesthetic’ paradigm for arts-based research with children. Her thesis was awarded joint runner-up in the Peter Lang International Young Scholars in Education Award. During her studies, she attended the Professor Rosi Braidotti Summer School at Utrecht University, titled ‘Posthuman Ethics in the Anthropocene’ where she presented and participated in panel discussions. Her academic writing has been published by Sage, Routledge, Springer, and Intellect Books. She was an invited speaker at the International Art Education Week at Seoul Museum of Modern Art, Korea and while there, she delivered experimental art workshops for South Korean teachers in Busan City. In her art practice, she has exhibited widely in both solo and selected group shows. She has won several awards for her art practice, including residencies and four public art commissions. Lucy was the inaugural Professor John Coolahan early years artist in residence at The Ark, a dedicated cultural centre for children in Dublin. Lucy worked as a Creative Associate with The Arts Council / Creative Ireland Creative Schools program from 2018-2021. She has also worked as an Associate Artist with Helium Arts, an Irish charity working through the arts with children living with long-term health conditions. Lucy's research interests include early childhood art education, arts-based research methods, post-qualitative research, posthuman ethics, art as research, art making and drawing in childhood.
