Gavin D. Brown is an Assistant Professor of Business & Society at DCU Business School. Gavin specialises in research related to risk management and emergency preparedness, focusing on enhancing societal and organisational resilience. His interests also encompass crisis management, sustainable development, and corporate social responsibility. Gavin’s work has been published in journals such as Safety Science, International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, International Journal of Emergency Services, Case Studies on Transport Policy, Progress in Disaster Science, and the Journal of Safety Research. He has collaborated on numerous research reports for government, public sector, and industry organisations, including revising and implementing Ireland’s “National Risk Assessment” with the Office of Emergency Planning and a research project for Met Éireann aimed at delivering effective, evidence-based weather and climate services for Ireland. At DCU, Gavin teaches a range of topics at the executive, post-graduate, and undergraduate levels, including Business Continuity, Risk Management, Emergency/Disaster Management, Emergency Preparedness for Large-scale Events, Contingency Management for Aviation, Sustainability (Building Sustainable Organisations), and Research Methods. In addition to his research and teaching roles, Gavin serves as a Board member of the Emergency Management Institute Ireland (EMII) and is a member of the Society for Risk Analysis. He was also appointed to the DCU Research Ethics Committee for a three-year term. In late 2022, Gavin received a certificate of appreciation from the Mayor of Fingal and the Chief Executive of Fingal County Council in recognition of his voluntary contributions to the county and its citizens as a former member of Fingal County Council’s Emergency Management Unit.
