The Interreg NWE Programme will launch the first small-scale project call for proposals in February 2023, with a deadline of the 12th July 2023.
Small scale projects are an opportunity to get funding for projects with reduced scope, size and duration, and a simpler and more accessible way for organisations to get involved with Interreg North-West Europe.

The Irish Cancer Society are now accepting applications for Summer Studentships 2023
The objective of the Irish Cancer Society Summer Studentships is to offer excellent undergraduate students the opportunity to undertake a cancer research project and to work with researchers in high-quality research environments.
There are four summer studentship awards available. Students may apply for a translational, biomedical, or clinical science summer studentship or a social, nursing, and allied health science summer studentship. Applicants can only apply for one type of studentship award. Please note, medical students and 1st year students are also eligible to apply for either stream.
Key Dates:
Deadline for applications: 3.00pm, Thursday 16th February 2023.
Deadline for queries regarding project eligibility: Thursday 2nd February 2023.

The Health Research Board Postdoctoral Fellowships - Applying Research into Policy & Practice (ARPP) scheme is now open.
This scheme is targeted at health and social care researchers with a PhD (or PhD equivalency) and between two to six years of active post-doctoral experience, who are interested in advancing applied health and social care research aimed at finding practical solutions to specific problems. This fellowship will provide a unique opportunity to enhance their career ambition towards achieving tenured independent investigator status.
Each fellowship will provide salary for the fellow and research-related costs up to a maximum of €50K. It can be undertaken full time for three years or part time up to five years. The HRB envisages up to eight awards.
The TORA deadline is 23rd February 2023, with the closing date for institutional approval on the HRB online portal on 2nd March 2023.

The HRB Summer Student Scholarship scheme is open to students completing an undergraduate degree who wish to gain early career research experience during the summer of 2023. Students must source an academic supervisor to host them over the course of 6-8 weeks in summer 2023.
Supervisors should upload applications to TORA by 2nd March, with the closing date for institutional approval on the HRB online portal on 9th March 2023.

The HRB has announced a call for applications for their Applied Programme Grants (APRO) 2023. This scheme aims to support a strategic programme of applied research in health and social care that will have an impact on the health and social care of individuals, population health and the health system in Ireland and beyond.
Applications should be submitted under one of the following thematic areas:
- Health, wellbeing and keeping populations healthy and independent throughout life
- Mental health and disability
- Social Care and the future of community care
- Non-communicable diseases
- Resilient and sustainable healthcare systems
- Pandemic preparedness and antimicrobial resistance
- Digital health and personalised medicine
The objectives of the call are to:
- Address stated national/EU/global priorities in health, public health or social care under the broad thematic areas listed above
- Support high-quality and team-based research which is likely to lead to a step change in practice and/or in outcomes to the health system, population health, or to service users and carers
- Tackle an identified problem from a variety of perspectives with a collaborative, complementary and multidisciplinary approach
- Use a range of multidisciplinary and methodological approaches
- Develop collaborations between researchers and knowledge users with a view to making outputs useable for implementation or informing policy and decision making
- Clearly demonstrate how patients, service users and/or carers have been involved and engaged with the programme
- Include clear plans for implementation, knowledge mobilisation and dissemination
Funding and duration:
The APRO 2023 scheme will provide funding for research programmes up to a maximum of €2.5M (inclusive of overheads) per award. Funding will be available for Programmes of between 48 – 60 months. The amount awarded and the length of the funding period will depend on the nature of the proposed work. Programmes using novel designs which facilitate shorter, more efficient programmes with earlier results are welcome.
The submission deadline is 6th April 2023 at 13:00.

SEAI has announced a call for applications to a pilot SEAI Fellowship Programme. This pilot programme provides the opportunity for postdoctoral or experienced researchers to apply for research fellowship positions based within SEAI.
There are seven diverse topics in this 2022 pilot call with a maximum of one proposal to be funded under each topic.
Fellowship applications will be accepted from 3rd Level Educational Bodies only, based in the Republic of Ireland.
The SEAI Fellowship Programme is open to researchers who:
- Hold a relevant PhD or equivalent* relevant research experience
- Have the support of a 3rd Level Educational Body for their application
The call for applications will close on February 14th at 3pm IST.

The SFI Frontiers for the Future Programme provides opportunities for independent investigators to conduct highly innovative, collaborative research with the potential to deliver impact, whilst also providing opportunities for high-risk, high-reward research projects.
The Projects stream is now open with a deadline of 14th April 2023.

The Irish Research Council Ulysses 2024 call will open on 15th February 2023.
The Council and the Embassy of France in Ireland are committed to supporting continued knowledge exchange between Irish and French researchers through collaboration. In order to facilitate more collaborative engagements, funding is now provided over the course of 2 calendar years and has been increased to €5,000 each to Ireland and France-based research partners.
This year selected research projects will also be supported by the following strategic partners:
- Electricity transmission system operator EirGrid will partner with French-based Réseau de Transport d’Électricité to support suitably aligned research projects in the area of renewable energies and smart grids.
- The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland and ADEME, the French Environment and Energy Management Agency, will provide support to research projects exploring topics relating to sustainable energies.
A Ulysses award will involve researcher(s) based in Ireland travelling to France and researcher(s) based in France travelling to Ireland.
Awards will be up to a maximum of €5,000 each to the lead Ireland and the lead France-based research partner to cover travel and living expenses. These awards are simultaneously receivable and must be used by end of the 2025 calendar year.
Application submission deadline is 13th April 2023.

With up to €840,000 of funding available, the EPA is inviting the research community to submit research proposals for a large-scale project to address the topic of: Detecting change and assessing the effectiveness of measures to protect and restore high status objective river water bodies.
