How to secure Zoom Meetings and Webinars
Attendee limit for DCU Zoom Meetings is 300 and only 49 attendees can be displayed on the screen at the same time.
Change your default ZOOM security settings.
It is possible to change the security settings in Zoom once you have logged in, just follow the instructions below:
- To log into Zoom, please visit: dcu-ie.zoom.us
- Click on the Sign-in option, see image below.
- From here, click on the Settings option from the navigation panel on the left of the screen.
- It is possible to enable the security settings of your instance of Zoom from here.
Recommended security settings are:
Setting | Option | ON/OFF |

Waiting Room | When participants join a meeting, place them in a waiting room and require the host to admit them individually | ON |
Require a passcode when scheduling new meetings | A passcode will be generated when scheduling a meeting and participants require the passcode to join the meeting | ON |
Require a passcode for instant meetings | A random passcode will be generated when starting an instant meeting | ON |
Require a passcode for Personal Meeting ID (PMI) | A random passcode will be generated for Personal Meeting ID (PMI) | Optional |
Require passcode for participants joining by phone | A numeric passcode will be required for participants joining by phone | ON |
Embed passcode in invite link for one-click join | Meeting passcode will be encrypted and included in the invite link | ON |
Only authenticated users can join meetings | The participants need to authenticate prior to joining the meetings, hosts can choose one of the authentication methods when scheduling a meeting | ON |
Only authenticated users can join meetings from the Web client | The participants need to authenticate prior to joining meetings from a web client | ON |

Set security options while scheduling a Zoom meeting
It is possible to change the security settings in Zoom while scheduling a meeting once you have logged in, just follow the instructions below:
- To log into Zoom, please visit: dcu-ie.zoom.us
- Click on the Sign-in option, see image below.
- From here, click on the Meetings option from the navigation panel on the left.
- Then click on the Schedule A New Meeting option see image below.
- Fill in the details of your meeting as desired.
- Set the security settings as highlighted below in the image and set out in the Recommended Settings table
- Once you are satisfied that you have set your security to the recommended security settings, please click on the Save Button at the bottom of the page.

Available security settings are:
- Enable Waiting Room:

- Enables Waiting Room for participants to be granted access to the meeting by the host or to move current participants into the Waiting Room.

- This ensures that only guests that have been granted access by the host can join and participate in the meeting.

- Lock Meeting:

- Locks the meeting, keeping new participants from joining the meeting.
- This setting ensures that once all intended participants are in the meeting no one else can join.

- Remove Participant:

- Allows the removal of a participant from a meeting.
- If you have started a meeting and you want to remove a participant, click on the Security tab and then on the Remove Participant option.
