Distinguished Speaker Series: Professor Michael Solomon delivers two talks at DCU Business School

The marketing group at DCUBS were pleased to welcome the visit from Professor Michael Solomon on Friday October 14th.

Michael R. Solomon, Ph.D. is Professor of Marketing and Director of the Centre for Consumer Research in the Haub School of Business at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He also is Professor of Consumer Behaviour at the Manchester School of Business.

His consumer behaviour text, now in its ninth edition, is one of the most widely adopted texts in universities across the English-speaking world and has been translated into several languages. Separate European, Australian and Canadian versions are the market leaders in those regions. Prof. Solomon's primary research interests include consumer behaviour and lifestyle issues, branding strategy, the symbolic aspects of products, the psychology of fashion, marketing applications of virtual worlds and the development of visually-oriented online research methodologies.

His first lecture entitled: Gender Identity and Consumer Behavious was very well received by a full house of undergraduate students.

His second talk entitled “The Brand that isn't There: Managing Identity on Virtual Marketing Platforms” was addressed to postgraduate marketing students. The lectures were of particular interest to our colleagues, practitioners and students in the fields of digital marketing and consumer behaviour and sits well with the growing importance accorded within the School to these areas in its teaching and research activities.

The group acknowledge financial assistance from the Building Research Capacity initiative in the School in organising this event.
