The MSc In Natural Language Processing course at DCU is designed to equip students with the skills needed to develop computer programs that can understand and produce natural language the way humans do. The course draws concepts from computer science, statistics, and linguistics to build large language models (LLM) that are trained on a vast collection of texts enabling them to make inferences and answer specific questions.

The course equips students with state-of-the-art techniques developed by experienced academics in collaboration with NLP experts from the industry. Students will benefit from the experience and build their skills for a successful career. Students will study introductory and advanced NLP, Human Factors in NLP, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Analytics, and Data Mining. Elective modules include Machine Translation and Mathematical Methods. The practicum allows students to develop solutions to address real-world NLP problems.

A team of experts engaged with national and international research centres, and guest lecturers from the industry deliver the modules. Students also have the opportunity to do their practicum using real-world problems addressed by the research centres at the School of Computing.

Studying NLP at DCU prepares you to take on various roles in the industry.  The recent advancement in LLMs opens several opportunities for NLP experts. Generative AI is becoming highly relevant for many disciplines such as software engineering, business studies, customer service, and education. This course will prepare you to take up job openings in any part of the world.
