Employment Permit Guidelines
Before applying for a job in DCU please check your eligibility to work in Ireland. Most non-EEA nationals will need to have an employee permit to work in this country.
It's important to learn about types of employment permits that might be required and any other relevant Visa information. We have a dedicated employee permits page to support you in this process.
Garda (Police) Vetting of Staff
Garda vetting applies to anyone who will have regular access to children or vulnerable persons in the course of their employment at DCU.
The vetting of all new DCU staff, including research staff, hourly occasional staff and visitors, is mandatory where relevant and in advance of the proposed commencement date. More details on Garda Vetting and the process is available here.

Yes. DCU has a trial remote working plan for staff. One day working from home applies all year round and two days apply up to 21 weeks per year. The schedule is decided by Unit Heads with HR, considering the academic calendar, business needs, and service provision.
Yes. DCU offers three public service superannuation schemes, along with a private scheme for campus companies. More details on DCU's pension schemes can be found on the Pensions site.

Yes. Applications from non-EEA citizens are encouraged, but eligibility is determined by the Enterprise, Trade & Employment. Details on eligible occupations and ineligible categories can be found in the Regulations here.
Non-EEA candidates must obtain a visa to travel to Ireland before the interview. Note that a successful interview doesn't guarantee employment; obtaining an employment permit is necessary.
Additionally, according to the Employment Permits Acts 2003 & 2006, non-EEA nationals must have an employment permit to work legally in Ireland. The EEA includes EU member states, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein.
Hosting Agreements allow non-EU National academic research staff to conduct research in Ireland without needing an annual work permit. These agreements usually apply to roles like Research Assistant, Postdoctoral Researcher, Research Fellow, Senior Research Fellow, or Lecturers involved in research.
They don't cover technical, administrative, professional, or academic staff who aren't engaged in research. More details on Hosting Agreements can be found on our website.

If you haven't registered on our recruitment portal before, you'll need to create an account. Your profile can be used for multiple applications.

Vacancies can be advertised from one to four weeks. After an advertisement has closed, we allow for one to two weeks for the shortlisting process. We aim to notify all candidates of the outcome of their application within 6-8 weeks. If you have not received an update after this time, please contact talent@dcu.ie.
To apply for a role as a DCU staff member: Visit the Core staff portal where all roles are advertised. Log into your Core portal account and navigate to the 'Recruitment' tab on the left. Note that internal staff must have completed their probationary period before applying for a new role.
The job ad provides a contact person for informal inquiries about the role. Don't send your application or CV to this contact. Instead, follow the application process described above.

Interview Specific Questions
We aim to give candidates two weeks' notice for interviews.
Review the job description, research DCU and the Faculty, Unit or Research Centre you’re applying to. Think of examples based on the assessment criteria in the job description and reflect on your experience and how it aligns.

You'll be told if a presentation is required. Candidates should send a copy of their presentation to the recruitment team at an agreed date in advance of their interview.
The interview panel typically includes four members: the hiring manager, an internal expert, an external expert, and a DCU People team member. Sometimes, there may be up to six panel members.
Before the interview, candidates will receive the names of the panel members. During the interview, you'll discuss your previous experience, education, and training.
You'll also answer questions based on the job description's assessment criteria. At the end, you can ask the panel about the role, department, unit, or DCU.
After the interview, DCU will contact your references. Once the references have been returned, you will be informed whether or not you have been deemed appointable.
For some roles, DCU may contact referees in advance of the interview.
We endeavour to ensure you’re updated within 10 working days of the interview.
Yes. The hiring manager will be able to provide unsuccessful candidates with feedback upon request.
