DCU Techxperts support Hardware Hackathon

Ireland’s first ever Hardware Hackathon was held recently at DCU’s Innovation Campus. Makers, entrepreneurs, designers, engineers, creators, innovators and developers came  together from across Ireland for a weekend dedicated to developing ideas and hacking hardware.

Friday began with open mic  pitches where attendees detailed their best ideas and inspired others to join their team in the hope of creating the next big thing in hardware. Throughout the weekend the teams availed of products and expertise provided on-site to build their prototypes. DCU Techxperts were selected  from a multidisciplinary team of researchers with expertise in electrical & mechanical engineering, product design, sensor design, prototyping, programming, user interface design and mobile application to name a few

Final prototypes and ideas were pitched  to a panel of judges on Sunday evening. Professor Noel O’Connor represented DCU on the judging panel and Dr Christine Loscher and Dr Stephen Daniels acted as mentors throughout the weekend.

The overall prize went to Pharmalytics-Phridge providing connected inventory for pharmacies.
