THE World University Rankings 2024

Dublin City University ranked among the top 500 universities in the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings

The university’s teaching, research and citations scores all rose in the 2024 rankings.

DCU has been ranked among the top 500 universities in the world in the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

This follows on from DCU rising 24 places in the Times Higher Young University rankings to 89th in the world and being ranked sixth globally for its impact in reducing inequality.

Speaking about the 2024 rankings, Prof Daire Keogh, President of Dublin City University said

“Our ranking among the world’s best Universities signals the quality of DCU’s teaching and learning and the impact of our research and engagement. I want to pay tribute to my dedicated colleagues across the University, all of whom contribute to our global standing and our continued success.  I am very conscious, however, that Irish universities could do so much better if we were adequately resourced.”

Prof John Doyle, Vice President for Research, said

"In addition to maintaining our place in the top 500 universities, DCU is delighted to be ranked in the top 350 universities in the world for our research environment. This is a huge achievement by DCU staff. Supporting research at the highest international levels across a wide range of subject areas is crucial to Ireland's ability to attract economic investment, but also to address important societal challenges, such as climate change, health and wellbeing, global poverty and threats to democracy. DCU is proud to be recognised in this ranking as delivering at this international level."

About the Times Higher Education World University Rankings

THE (Times Higher Education) has been providing trusted performance data on universities for students and their families, academics, university leaders, governments and industry, since 2004. THE creates university rankings to assess university performance on the global stage and to provide a resource for readers to understand the different missions and successes of higher education institutions.

The World University Rankings have grown from only 200 institutions to just over 1,900 this year.

This year’s methodology, for the 20th edition of the World University Rankings, has been significantly updated, so that it continues to reflect the outputs of the diverse range of research-intensive universities across the world, now and in the future.

The World University Rankings have moved from 13 to 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments.

The performance indicators are still grouped into five areas, although the names of these have been tweaked: Teaching (the learning environment); Research environment (volume, income and reputation); Research quality (citation impact, research strength, research excellence and research influence); International outlook (staff, students and research); and Industry (income and patents).

You can read more about this and previous year's rankings on the THE website.

Dublin City University was also recently shortlisted for two THE Awards.
