EarthAct aims to spur climate action on a local level

EarthAct, an initiative founded by Dublin City University Professor Emeritus Colum Kenny is aiming to spur climate action on a grassroots local level across Ireland.

EarthAct is a resource to help people start a “climate club” with their friends and neighbours and makes it easy to get people together (either in person or virtually during the current restrictions) to get them engaged in the welfare of our environment. Climate change affects us all but addressing it can feel like an enormous task. EarthAct is a step towards making it easier and to show individuals and small groups how they can make a difference.

The first EarthAct group was set up by Prof. Kenny in Bray, Co. Wicklow.

He said:

“Since retiring I have had in mind to try and support younger people who are actively involved in trying to protect the climate and environment. This has led me to establish a resource for people who might like to set up a local climate group in their area or with friends, along the lines of a book club but somewhat more active!

EarthAct is a response in particular to Greta Thunberg's call on older people to ACT and is something practical and rewarding for people to do as we face into an uncertain future.”
