Dublin City University are pleased to welcome Professor Jed Harrison from the University of Alberta, Canada to DCU.

Professor Harrison is a Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Faculty of Science in the University of Alberta and is visiting DCU as part of a six-month sabbatical. Professor Harrison is regarded as one of the key founders and leaders in the field of study known as microfluidics, comprising modern “lab-on-a-chip” technologies.

A native of Vancouver, Professor Harrison has been a Faculty member at Alberta University since 1984. He is a graduate of Simon Fraser University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He has received numerous accolades for his pioneering work, including the W.A.E McBryde Medal from the Canadian Society for Chemistry; the Faculty of Science Research Award, University of Alberta; the Frederick Conference Award for outstanding achievement in capillary electrophoresis; the Maxxam Award in Analytical Chemistry from the Canadian Society for Chemistry and the J Gordin Kaplan Award for Excellence in Research.

Commenting on Professor Harrison’s visit to Dublin City University, Professor Dermot Diamond said:

“Professor Harrison’s research in materials science, microfluidics and sensing is recognised globally as being hugely influential across these critically important disciplines. His visit hosted by both myself and Prof. Jens Ducrée will provide multiple opportunities for Irish researchers to meet with a thought leader who has a wealth of experience to share."

Professor Harrison will be involved in a number of events during his stay and will be speaking at the upcoming EU NAPES Project meeting on environmental sensing at the Croke Park Conference Centre on March 27th and 28th.
