DCU expand engagement with partner institutions in Asia

As part of the university’s continued and expanding engagement with partner institutions in Asia, a DCU delegation, led by the President Prof. Brian MacCraith, recently visited South Korea and China to discuss ongoing cooperation projects and sign a number of significant agreements.

In Seoul, DCU visited Hanyang University (HYU), to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to establish HYU as the university’s strategic partner in Seoul. HYU, recently ranked number 2 in South Korea, will work with DCU on a number of research areas over the coming years.

To support Ireland’s “Country of Honour” status at this year’s China Annual Conference for International Education (CACIE), Prof. MacCraith delivered a presentation on DCU’s success in innovation and entrepreneurship in higher education, with a particular focus on initiatives such as the DCU Ryan Academy, Insight and the DCU Alpha Innovation campus.

In Beijing, the DCU delegation visited a number of partner universities including Communications University of China (CUC), Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) and University of International Business and Economics (UIBE). The UIBE School of Business and the DCU Business School, both AACSB accredited in 2016, plan to collaborate on a number of initiatives including student exchange and research.

In Wuhan, DCU was part of a large delegation led by the Ambassador of Ireland in China Paul Kavanagh and Deputy First Secretary of the Department of Education and Skills in Ireland Mary Doyle to visit the prestigious Wuhan University (WHU).

Prof. MacCraith signed a Memorandum of Understanding with President Li of WHU to facilitate continued cooperation between the two universities.

Finally, in Shanghai, the DCU delegation were hosted by East China Normal University (ECNU), one of China’s top universities in the field of education, for discussions on collaborations in education, computer science and sports science.

A new student exchange agreement was signed, providing DCU students of Chinese language an excellent opportunity to study in one of Shanghai’s most prestigious institutions.
