DCU Institute of Education to host world music gathering

DCU Institute of Education will host this year’s Music in the Schools and Teacher Education Commission (MISTEC) from Monday July 18th to Friday July 22nd at St. Patrick’s Campus, Drumcondra.

MISTEC is the first of six specially convened seminars held in advance of the International Society for Music Education (ISME) Conference taking place in Glasgow later this year.

Hosted by Dr. Regina Murphy, MISTEC will see music educators from across the globe coming together to discuss the latest research and developments in the teaching of music education. There is a varied and eclectic line-up of seminars, workshops and presentations with a particular focus on technology and its use and application in music education. The opening day of the seminar, will include a wide ranging presentation on issues in music education across the globe, with contributions from teaching practitioners in Spain, Greece and Asia.

Other highlights also include presentations on translating music from schools to the community as well as hip hop as the new education as told from the perspective of a teacher based in the Bronx, New York.
