Exciting changes at DCU

DCU is a young, dynamic and ambitious university, with a distinctive mission to transform lives and societies through our education, research and innovation. Since admitting our first students in 1980, DCU has continued to grow year on year; almost 50,000 students have now graduated from DCU and are playing key roles in many sectors across the world.

The next few years will see further transformation for the university, with the planned coming together of St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra (SPD), Mater Dei Institute of Education (MDI) and Church of Ireland College of Education (CICE) with DCU in a process known as The Incorporation. An important step in this process will occur in Sept 2015, when all incoming students to St Patrick’s College Drumcondra and Mater Dei Institute of Education will register as DCU students.

This major development heralds a new era for education in Ireland, by creating the largest critical mass of education expertise on this island across the full education continuum from Early Childhood through Primary and Secondary to third and fourth Level.

The Institute of Education (which will be DCU’s fifth faculty) will be of internationally significance and will conduct pioneering research in priority areas for 21st century education. It will engage with schools and educational communities across Ireland and beyond and be an authoritative source of influence on education policy developments.

As well as the new fifth faculty, the incorporation will enable a greatly enhanced faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and an enhanced learning experience for all students.
