Irish researchers Silicon Valley-bound

Six researchers from DCU, NUI Maynooth, Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork and University College Dublin have been selected from DCU Ryan Academy’s Get Started Venture Technology programme to visit Silicon Valley and meet potential investors and collaborators.

Get Started allows 60 researchers from universities around Ireland to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to commercialise their research, product or service.  Topics covered include:  Innovative Mindset; Marketer’s Mindset; Project Management; Finance; Venture Capital; IP & Copyright; Technology Sales.  The programme is delivered by the DCU Ryan Academy in Citywest and is funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI).  

Throughout the programme, participants learn how to “Tell their Story” and competed in a final pitching event before a panel of industry experts, each with start-up and university spin-out experience.  The winners announced were:

  •  DCU - Robert Foster, DCU
  • NUIM - Bryan Hennelly, NUIM
  • TCD - Claire Mc Donald, TCD
  • UCC Anne Moore, UCC
  • UCC Caitriona O’Driscoll, UCC
  • UCD - Suzanne Foley, UCD

All 6 winners will travel to Silicon Valley for one week, hosted by the Irish Technology Leadership Group, to meet venture capitalists and leading technology companies, presenting a unique opportunity to promote the commercialisation of their research.
