DCU Library launches Media History Collection

A reporter's notebook from Easter 1916

The DCU Library Media History Collection has been launched by Professor Brian MacCraith, DCU President and Dr John Bowman, broadcaster, historian and author at an event attended by donors and family representatives. During the event, Mr Gerry Murphy, former Irish Independent journalist, presented to the Library a reporter's notebook from Easter 1916.

The Collection, housed in DCU Library, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of media in Ireland by sourcing the papers and records of media and communication practitioners and media institutions. This material, which will become publicly accessible in the future, will provide an invaluable source of information to future generations of researchers.

The Collection relies mainly on the donation of material and has already benefitted from generous donations and pledges of personal papers and other material, including records relating to the Interim Radio Commission, the Commission on the Newspaper Industry and the Forum on Broadcasting. Donations have included the private papers of former Irish Times editors, Douglas Gageby and Conor Brady, broadcaster Desmond Fisher, Ombudsman Michael Mills and the Kevin Kenny archive.
