DCU President Prof Brian MacCraith was joined by Deirdre O'Carroll from An Taisce on Wednesday March 7th 2012, to plant a tree in the Albert College Garden to mark the launch of the DCU's Green Flag initiative.

The Green Flag initiative will see DCU embark on a campaign to become an An Taisce certified Green Campus. This will require the introduction of a range of practises and procedures  across all campus activities which will be driven by the Green Committee under Chairwoman Samantha Fahy. The tree — an upright form of a native Irish Oak (Quercus Robur Fastigiata)was planted jointly by DCU President Prof. MacCraith and DCU Student Union President Ed Leamy.

Speaking about the Green Flag initiative, Prof MacCraith paid tribute to the many people within who have already made progress towards making the campus a cleaner and more sustainable environment, and said the planting of the tree is a clear statement of our ambition and commitment to embracing this project at all levels of university life.
