Dr Eukaria Meehan, Interim Director, Irish Research Council; Minister for Education & Skills, Mr Ruairi Quinn TD; Dr Angela Schindler-Daniels, Co-ordinator Network4Society and Professor Maria Slowey, DCU

Minister for Education & Skills, Mr Ruairi Quinn TD has launched 'Global Perspectives on Higher Education and Lifelong Learners' by DCU academic, Professor Maria Slowey, at a reception hosted by the Irish Research Council and Network4Society, an ESOF satellite conference.

Published by Routledge, the book is the result of a study coordinated by Professor Slowey (Director of the Higher Education Research Centre, DCU) and Hans G. Schuetze (Emeritus Professor and previous Director of the Centre for Policy Studies in Higher Education, University of British Columbia). It explores developments in higher education and lifelong learning in fourteen countries across Europe, North & South America, Asia and Australasia between 2000-2010.

Minister Quinn welcomed the publication, saying that it was important to investigate routes to higher education for those who did not have the opportunity to participate at a younger age. The launch was attended by around 130 people.
