Indian Film Series

The Ireland India Institute invites you to the first Indian Film Series, starting Wednesday 2 November at 6.30 with Ek Tha Tiger, filmed in Dublin. The film series is set up to be a moment of cultural exchanges around Indian movies. They will start with a short presentation, to give context to the movie and they will be followed by a discussion. The first semester will see five movies presented: Ek Tha Tiger, The Lunchbox, Charlie, Parched, Chak De India.

The Ireland India Institute will start Wednesday (2 November) and for 5 weeks, in DCU, Glasnevin Campus, Room CG86 from 6.30pm. All are welcome!

Ek Tha Tiger - 2 November

Ek Tha Tiger (English: Once There was a Tiger) is a 2012 Indian action thriller, directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Aditya Chopra of Yash Ra. The plot centers on an Indian spy (RAW) code-named Tiger who falls in love with a Pakistani spy (ISI) during an investigation and how Tiger's ideology and principles change over time.


The Lunchbox - 9 November
A mistaken delivery in Mumbai's famously efficient lunchbox delivery system connects a young housewife to an older man in the dusk of his life as they build a fantasy world together through notes in the lunchbox. The Lunchbox is a 2013 Indian epistolary romantic film written and directed by Ritesh Batra, and produced by Guneet Monga, Anurag Kashyap, and Arun Rangachari.


Charlie - 16 November
A young, nonconforming woman named Tessa gets entangled in a cat-and-mouse chase in the by-lanes of Kerala, hunting for a mysterious artist who previously lived in her apartment. Charlie is a 2015 Indian Malayalam language romantic drama film directed by Martin Prakkat and written by Prakkat and Unni R.


Parched - 23 November
Set in the heart of parched rural landscape of Gujarat, it traces the bittersweet tale of four ordinary women Rani, Lajjo, Bijli and Janaki. We see them unapologetically talk about men, sex, and life as they struggle with their own individual boundaries.

Chak De India - 30 November
Chak De India is the story of a coach's fight of making his team, Team India by overcoming their diverse backgrounds, by learning to use everything that life hurls on them as a secret weapon. It's a story about honesty, sincerity, and integrity. The film became a cult classic and won its leading man the National Award and put the Indian National Sport "Hockey", back on the map.
