DCU’s Institute of Education a partner in new global citizenship education programme Global Village

Global Village aims to support primary school pupils to become active global citizens committed to building a fairer and more sustainable world.

Dublin City University’s Institute of Education is a partner in the Global Village programme, working with Irish Aid at the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO), Irish Primary Principals’ Network and Trócaire

Through Global Village, primary school pupils are supported to become active global citizens. Engaging with teachers and school communities, Global Village is working to increase the reach, quality, accessibility, and effectiveness of global citizenship education in primary schools.

A pilot programme ran in 2023, with 16 participating schools.

 

Speaking about the programme, Dr Maria Barry, from School of STEM Education, Innovation & Global Studies said

“We are delighted to be part of this new programme for primary schools. Global Village is supported by an experienced and creative team that is waiting to support teachers and children in their schools. If you are a teacher who would like more support and ideas for global citizenship education in your school, I would urge you to get in touch.”

“Working with DCU from our pilot phase to now, has meant the programme takes a research-informed approach, ensuring that teacher needs and experiences are central to the development of the Global Village programme for GCE in primary schools across Ireland. 

DCU have brought a richness to the programme that is hugely appreciated by the full Global Village team.”
