Do you have a pupil who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing enrolled in your Gaelscoil?

Dr. Elizabeth Mathews (School of Inclusive and Special Education, Institute of Education, Dublin City University) is carrying out a study examining the language backgrounds, experiences and practices of Deaf or Hard of Hearing children who are enrolled in Gaelscoileanna. This project represents the first of its kind in Ireland. Dr. Mathews is currently recruiting for this study. To take part in this study, pupils must be identified as deaf or hard of hearing (bilateral hearing loss in the moderate, severe or profound range), be aged between 5 and 13, and be enrolled in a Gaelscoil (and have been for at least a period of six months). For the study, the child’s parent and resource teacher (or class teacher where there is no resource teacher) will be interviewed, and the child will complete a questionnaire with the help of their parent.
If you have a pupil in your school who you think may be eligible, please contact Dr. Mathews at elizabeth.mathews@dcu.ie or phone 018842247. Following initial contact, you will be provided with detailed information on the study. This project has been approved by the Dublin City University Research Ethics Committee.
