Bernard Brogan presented the 2016 champions Enactus Dublin City University (DCU) at the high profile annual Enactus Ireland National Competition which saw colleges from across the country compete.

The DCU winning team were closely followed by Enactus NUI Galway and the other semi-finalists Maynooth University and University College Cork.

Bernard gave an inspiring keynote address where he spoke to all the students about the power of the team and the learning experience that comes with failure. This exciting showcase competition sees student teams from across the country formally present the results of their projects which are judged and evaluated by community and business leaders serving as judges. Enactus DCU will go forward to represent Ireland at the Enactus World Cup in Toronto, Canada this coming September.

Projects - Enactus DCU

DCU presented the impacts of their two main projects at this year’s National Competition, Prison Break employs a former prisoner to manage a cross-campus fitness programme and Camphill Crafts which demonstrates students empowering craftspeople with intellectual disabilities to develop a sustainable route to market.

This year’s competition saw innovative and socially inclusive projects presented by all colleges around the country and judges were particularly impressed with the energy and creative thinking presented by all the students.

Enactus Chairman, Terence O’Rourke, “the energy from the students is contagious and this year again we have seen a truly amazing range of projects and initiatives creating real community impacts”.

Enactus Ireland

Founded in November 2011 Enactus Ireland is one of 36 country organisations around the world that operates an Enactus programme, bringing together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action solve community challenges. Guided by academic advisors and business experts, the student leaders of Enactus create and implement community empowerment projects and this experience not only transforms lives, it helps students develop the kind of talent, skills and perspective that are essential to leadership in an ever-more complicated and challenging world.

National champion teams from all over the world advance to the prestigious Enactus World Cup, being held this year in Toronto, Canada. In addition to the community focus of the programme, the Enactus initiative provides leadership and career opportunities for the participating students.

Each team has had access to support and mentorship from a range of Enactus partners including, Bank of Ireland, KPMG, Abbott, Cartrawler, AIG, KBC Bank, Arthur Cox, Willis Towers Watson, MERC Partners, Microsoft, New Ireland Insurance, Unilever, Musgrave Group, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Oracle, HSBC and The Ireland Funds.
