I am an Assistant Professor in Sociology at the DCU Institute of Education, and a member of the School of Human Development. I teach on a range of programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and across the Faculties of Education and Humanities & Social Sciences. My main teaching responsibilities are in the areas of: Families and Education; Multiple Intelligences; Children’s Rights and Privacy in Schools; and the Sociology of Childhood. I am Module Coordinator for all research programmes on the BAJH (Human Development), leading students in the completion of empirical research projects at undergraduate level.

My research interests and publications are mainly in: Diversity and Education; Parental involvement and Schooling; Homework; Children’s Rights and Privacy; Traveller Education; and School Placement.

In addition to my teaching, research and school placement responsibilities, I hold the following roles at DCU:

- Programme Chair of the Professional Masters in Education Primary (PMEP)

Research Convenor for the School of Human Development

- Member of the DCU Research Ethics Committee (REC)

I am committed to community service and in that vein serve as Chairperson of a Board of Management in the Educate Together network of schools.
