Ballyfermot College and Dublin City University

Ballyfermot College is a college of further and higher education providing vocational education through the provision of excellent teaching and guidance in a caring and supportive learning environment.

Ballyfermot College has long been a leader in the development of innovative and non-traditional courses in media education.  Formerly known as Senior College Ballyfermot, it became renowned for the Rock School and lead educational development within the music and media industries from the early eighties. Since then the College has gone from strength to strength, and continues to evolve a curriculum across a broad range of media disciplines.  Today BCFE boasts courses across a range of levels from FETAC level 5, to honours degree level 8. These include, Media Production, Animation, Film, TV, Radio Production, Print Journalism, Art Design, Graphics, Presentation and Performance, Music Management, Music Technology, Traditional Music, Computer Game Design and Multimedia Production.

Dublin City University were involved from an early stage, as external examiners, for many of these programmes and a long established relationship exists between BCFE and DCU.  When BCFE established its first degree programme in 1995 members of the School of Communications provided excellent support and advice as external examiners. In 2005, BCFE felt it would be more appropriate to have an Irish university validate the BA Media Production Management degree and DCU stood out as being the University of Choice for any new collaboration. It was agree that mutual benefit and synergy would be created through a collaborative partnership with DCU as there were many areas of BCFE strategy, which complement the ideals of DCU.  Such a partnership serves both institutions well in the pursuit of these objectives.
